Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and it is the second highest mountain in Africa second to Mount Kilimanjaro. Mt. Kenya's elevation is 17, 057 ft. Mt. Kenya's first ascent was in 1899. It is apart of the East Rift Mountain Range and its' prominence in 12, 549 ft. There are four groups of people that live near Mount Kenya. There is the Kikuyu, the Embu, the Ameru, and the Maasi. This mountain separates these people from each other and they get to live their lives with outside interaction. Libyan Desert The Libyan Desert is approximately 1,100,000 square kilometers or 420,000 square miles. The desert extends 1,100 km east and west and 1,000 km north and south. The Libyan Desert is one of the most driest place on Earth. The Libyan Desert helped the Egyptians construct their civilization because since the Desert is very harsh no one would want to cross it on horseback or foot so they didn't ever attack Egypt. |

The Niger River is the third largest river in Africa. It is 2,600 miles long, its main source in the Guinea Highlands. The Niger River runs through Mali and Nigeria. Its drainage delta is known as the Niger delta and drains into the Gulf of Guinea or goes into the Atlantic Ocean. The Niger River runs through 2 countries and the border of another. It also has many cities along its route. Nigeria and Niger both take their name from this river. This makes national claims by colonial powers. One of the weirdest things about this river is that it runs straight through a desert. White Nile The White Nile is approximately 2,300 miles. The White Nile is a bunch of rivers that drain from Lake Victoria into the White Nile proper. The White Nile keeps people apart because they are on the other side of the river. It also helps people come together though because it is a trade route that people use and can communicate and sell items between each other because of the White Nile |

Africa is a major producer in gold. They produce up to 30% of the world total gold intake. South Africa is one of the worlds' top producers but also has the highest spending costs. Other countries in Africa such as Zimbabwe and Ghana are very prominent in their gold production since they are centered on the Witwatersrand place gold deposit. Gold in Africa is very important because it is what makes peoples livings and without the production of gold lots of people will be out of their jobs and they won be able to support their families. Diamonds Diamonds are a very important resource in Africa. People can strike it rich if they mine diamonds in Africa. Diamonds can also kill people. There are many mines that have been raided because they have founded precious minerals. Diamonds can and have changed many peoples lives in Africa they can easily change it for the better but they can sometimes change it for the worse in a hurry. |
