LandformsPyrenees Mountains
The Pyrenees Mountains stretch more than 430km and 3,400m above sea level. These mountains are what separate France from Spain and Portugal. If these mountains weren't there then there might not be the two countries that we know today that just happen to be so different from each other. There might just be country because France might have tried to invade Spain. Also, North America might not have been found because if it wasn't for these mountains Spain wouldn't of had to fund Columbus because they would have had resources or ways to get them. Italian Peninsula The Italian Peninsula or also known as the Apennine Peninsula is the smallest of the three peninsulas in Southern Europe. The Italian Peninsula stretches 1,000 km and is 50,709 square miles. This peninsula is also 9,544' above sea level because of all the mountains in this region. The Italian Peninsula is a pretty great thing because of what it has done to help other countries grow. If the peninsula wasn't where it is Columbus wouldn't of had to go to Spain for funding and possibly wouldn't have found North America. Spain also wouldn't have gotten rich and many other places that Italy trades with. This peninsula isolates people but at the same time it brings people closer together because the people that live here are close to many of the people that live near them. |
RiversLoire River
The Loire river is located in France and is 1,012 kilometers long. This river drains an area of almost a fifth of France's land and is the 171st largest river in the world. The Loire affects people in many different ways. It separates people because of how large it is and it also helped people survive much like the Nile did for the Egyptian and still does today. The Loire has many chateau's along side it and vineyards as well. This river also helps people because it brings with it a trading route and a source of transportation. Rhine River The Rhine river is also another river along with the Loire that has many affects on people. The Rhine river is located in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. The Rhine river is the second largest river in Central and Western Europe (after the Danube). The Rhine river has impacted many peoples lives much like the Loire. The Rhine and the Danube made up most of the Roman Empire's frontier and since then it has served as a great waterway that brings trade and goods inland. There are many castles along the Rhine that fortify it's importance as a waterway in the Holy Roman Empire but it now stands as a sign of German Nationalism. |
ResourcesPotatoes
Potatoes are very important to this part of the world because there is hardly and fertile land that you can grow crops. This is why they grow potatoes because they can grow in pretty much anything. This can be good for people that farm potatoes but if the potatoes get infected like what happened during the Potato Famine of 1845-49. Coal There is need for coal all around the world and especially in Europe. There are a lot trains that are used in Europe and there are still cars used but mostly trains. There is also a lot of people so if they use coal for like warming their house then there will be even more coal usage which is falling in Europe right now because of the new subway type trains that don't need a lot of fuel to run. |
